How It All Began:
A History of the Moore-Weis Children's Center
Suzzanne Moore and Kelly Weis, specialists in child development and early childhood special education, developed The Moore-Weis Children's Center of Austin.
In the spring of 1996, we developed a very successful pilot program, which later became Reach for a Star. The children in the pilot program exhibited characteristics of the autism spectrum disorders. At the close of the 1997 school year, it was evident that the program we were developing not only met the needs of children experiencing communication disabilities under the autism spectrum disorders, but also effectively served children experiencing receptive and expressive language disorders, sensory integration dysfunction, learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, seizure disorders, and various syndromes.
