Curriculum/Assessment

  • Developmentally-based areas of competence and goals
  • Individual Educational Plan, updated every nine weeks
  • Formal parent conferences twice yearly
  • Informal updates on progress with parents on a daily basis
  • Group parent conference, once a year

Daily Schedule-

  • Visual/concrete representation
  • Establishes a visual/concrete representation for blocks of time throughout the day
  • Organizes and grounds (makes the day predictable) the child from the beginning to the end of the day
  • Within each block of time, activities are developed that support each child’s unique learning style, individual skill level and behavioral issues
  • The day becomes familiar

From the above-mentioned each child receives the following:

    • The ability to anticipate the next step
    • Spontaneous initiation/spontaneous language
    • Security in knowing where he/she is and what comes next
    • Teaches scheme of activity

Activities-

  • Concrete
  • Functional (meaningful)
  • Child relevant
  • Repetitious
  • Related to thematic units in each area of the day, i.e. independent work area, circle, center activities, group language, snack, reading, community outings
  • Designed for success (with each child’s communication level both receptive and expressive and developmental levels taken into account)
  • Designed for independence
